In a lot of ways 2020 was the worst year of our collective lives. Covid-19 upended our lives and we’re all sad and exhausted. But in all the darkness, there were moments of lightness and joy. Here are a few of my highlights from the year:
10. We planted a new tree in the front yard. It’s a Bloodgood Japanese Maple and every day when I open the front door, it makes me happy to see.
9. In a nod to our Covid-life: I got some great face masks on Etsy. My favorites were from Masqe and CarteBlanchebyCathy.
8. I learned how to write a few new fiction forms. My current favorites are Hermit Crab and Flash.
7. I wrote some great nonfiction pieces this Fall and I’m working on a lyric essay that I’m simultaneously afraid and excited about. I submitted one of my pieces, and I’m thinking about submitting another.
6. One of the best bits of writing advice I received was to stop treating my writing time as precious. Don’t wait for the perfect moment to sit down and write because that isn’t likely to happen. Instead, write now.
5. I got to spend more time with my hubby & kids.
4. My youngest got her driver’s license this year.
3. Our first grandchild was born in March. He’s beautiful and perfect.
2. My family is healthy and safe.
- And thank you TikTok for distracting us all year!
